What is Compensation for Unemployability (TDIU)?
Unemployability or TDIU is the Department of Veterans Affairs shorthand for “Total Disability based on Individual Employability.” And that term just means that there are certain cases where the veteran’s disability is so severe that even though the percentage rating that the VA assigns is not 100%, the person’s disability is so severe as to prevent them from working. And in those cases, the government compensates by giving a higher rating — 100% benefit payment — even though the actual percentage rating is lower.
